Description:
This superb, 20-hectare Saint Emilion Grand Cru property, not far from the renowned Valandraud estate, was purchased by Peter Kwok in 2012. An addition to his extensive portfolio on Bordeaux's Right Bank. He has since made the château fully organic and biodynamic – a clear indication of the team's meticulous approach every step of the process. What's more, they have the renowned Michel Rolland as consultant.

The result is Château Tour Saint Christophe, a Bordeaux coupage registered in the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru AOC and composed of the traditional merlot and cabernet sauvignon varieties. Vines with an average age of 30 years are planted in clay and limestone soils. After a meticulous selection process in the vineyard and in the winery, the selected grapes are fermented in concrete tanks with native yeasts at a controlled temperature. The wine is then aged for 15 months in French oak barrels.

Outer quote markA very good year for Tour Saint Christophe, showing great depth and flavor despite high alcohol. Abundant dark minerals, fresh blackberries, black olives and a hint of cocoa powder. Pretty full-bodied and firm with crunchy, reactive tannins and a long and flavourful finish. Lots of density here. Drink from 2027. Inner quote mark

Outer quote markThe 2022 Tour Saint Christophe, 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, is deep garnet-purple in colour. It bounds out of the glass with exuberant notions of baked blueberries, juicy black plums, and boysenberry preserves, followed by suggestions of star anise, crushed rocks, and cardamom. The concentrated, full-bodied palate is jam packed with black and blue fruit preserves, framed by velvety tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long and spicy. Inner quote mark

Outer quote markThe 2022 Tour Saint Christophe presents a well defined bouquet with brambly red berry fruit, light cedar and cigar box scents that unfold in the glass. The medium-bodied palate is silky-smooth on the entry and very well balanced, with nicely judged acidity and touches of spice box and white pepper on the finish. This Saint-Émilion should age well in bottle and showed even better on my second and third encounter.Inner quote mark

Tasting Note:
A concentrated red wine with aromas of black fruits accompanied by notes of licorice and hints of limestone. On the palate, it is smooth, fleshy, and well-structured. A medium to full-bodied wine with a fleshy core of fruit and soft tannins, and a long and persistent finish.
