Description:
In 2019, Karine and Jean de Colbert acquired Château de la Commanderie, including the surrounding 29 hectares of vineyards. This acquisition marked a new era for the estate, with the new owners making significant investments in both the vineyards and the winery to improve quality and sustainability. The Colberts have focused on enhancing the vineyards and winery by integrating modern technologies and implementing sustainable farming practices. The new owners have invested in state-of-the-art vinification equipment and methods, including the use of concrete and stainless steel tanks for fermentation and French oak barrels for aging. Commanderie stands for quality, reliability, and trustworthiness and is likely one of the best introductions to Bordeaux in the Libourne region.
The grapes are handpicked and fermented separately in temperature-controlled concrete vats. After malolactic fermentation, the wine further matures in a mix of new and used barrels for 12-14 months. Then follows the blending and bottling process.
Tasting Note:
A shiny, ruby-red colour. Aromas of red currants, Morello cherries, and other forest fruits. Beautifully integrated hints of wood, vanilla, and soft spices. Pleasantly full-bodied and enjoyable on the palate. The velvety character of Merlot makes it very approachable. A deliciously tasty and long finish.
Food Pairing:
Classic meat dishes, stews, prepared foie gras, and a delicious, soft goat cheese but also turkey, quail, and partridge.
