Description:
Waterford Antigo is a refined Cape Bordeaux-style red wine from the acclaimed Waterford Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa. The wine is named after the unique red clay and granite soils of the “Antigo” vineyard, which give the wine depth, purity, and polished tannins.
This elegant blend is primarily composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller portions of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and occasionally Petit Verdot or Malbec, depending on the vintage. Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in stainless steel before being matured for approximately 20 months in French oak barrels. The result is a balanced, structured wine with a distinctive sense of place.
Tasting Note: Antigo offers aromas of blackcurrant, ripe cherry, graphite, violets, cedarwood, and subtle herbal notes. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, with silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, layered finish featuring dark berries, mocha, and spice.
Food Matches: Waterford Antigo is ideal with grilled meats, lamb dishes, beef stews, and aged cheeses. It drinks well now but will reward 5–8 years of cellaring.
