Bouza do Rei Albarino
Rias Biaxas, Spain
2 x 75cl Bottle
Galicia is a very individual region within Spain, with a language and culture all of its own. It is also home to what is arguably Spain's greatest white grape, Albariño, which grows on the traditional pergolas throughout the Rías Baixas area of Galicia. Bouza do Rei is one of the best value wineries in Galicia. Owned by Isodoro Serrantes, the president of the Rias Biaxas Wine Board and making wines since the early 1980s.
Bodegas Attis Y Vinedos Fine Lees Albarino
Rias Biaxas, Spain
2 x 75cl
A rich, lightly oaked style of Albarino from expert winemakers Attis in Rias Baixas. Ripe apricot and peach aromas, a buttery salinity but balanced by fresh acidity. There is a pleasing crisp minerality on the finish.
Bodegas Attis Y Vinedos Nana Albarino
Rias Biaxas, Spain
1 x 75cl
What makes this the most spectacular white wine from this region? Hand-harvested. Manual selection upon arrival at the winery. Complete destemming, gentle pressing, cold clarification, and selection of the must. Spontaneous fermentation in French oak barrels. This is akin to the finest of Burgundys, with love, attention and every possible detail going into this wine.
Maturation: 12 months on the fine lees with regular batonnage in the same barrel, followed by clarification with fish isinglass.
Mar de Frades Albarino
Rias Biaxas, Spain
1 x 75cl
The grapes used to make this Albariño come from Valiñas Finca, a plot planted on terraces and located to the south of Mount Valiñas in the Salnés Valley. The influence of the nearby Ria de Arousa is noted, and ocean breezes give this Mar de Frades a saline character.
The vines are over 20 years of age, trellises are used to avoid soil moisture. A poor and shallow soil containing sand formed by decomposition of granite gives the wine a certain minerality. The harvest is done manually and grapes go through a strict table selection process, where up to 20-25% of the crop is discarded.
Ferreira 'Dona Antonia' 10 Year Old White Port
Villa Nova de Gaia, Porto
1 x 75cl
Amber in colour with intense aromas of dried citrus peel, nuts, caramel and baking spices on the nose. On the palate, it perfectly marries oomph and elegance, with a linear acidity balancing the sweetness and carrying the intense and evolved flavours onto the lingering finish.
Taylors Late Bottled Vintage Port
Villa Nova de Gaia, Porto
1 x 75cl
Very bright, intense fruit on the nose, black woodland berry aromas blending with fresher notes of raspberry and plum. Wild herbal notes of resin and balsam lend the wine a lifted, ethereal quality and an additional dimension of complexity. On the palate, the fruit character is denser and more luscious but there is also a fresh grapey quality. The taut, linear tannins of great quality are another hallmark of the 2016 vintage, as is the seam of racy acidity which runs through the palate. The finish is extraordinarily long, a seemingly infinite surge of dense berry fruit flavour. This elegant and stylish LBV displays the classic Taylor’s blend of pure, focused fruit with a sinewy muscularity and impressive stamina and depth.
Casa Ferreirinha Vinha Grande Duoro Tinto
Duoro Valley, Portugal
1 x 75cl
The Casa Ferreirinha reds are all characterised by great depth of flavour. They range from the unoaked, ripe and juicy ‘Esteva’ and ‘Papa Figos’, through to the oak-aged ‘Vinha Grande’ and ‘Callabriga’, which marry intense and concentrated aromas of red and black fruit with subtle spicy hints of tobacco box and cocoa.
The Vinha Grande is deep ruby in colour. On the nose, this wine showcases intense aromas of blackberry, red cherry and plum alongside floral nuances and savoury notes of balsamic, tobacco box and spice. Velvety tannins and a well-integrated acidity on the palate with a long, harmonious finish.
Casa Ferreirinha Papa Figos Duoro Tinto
Duoro Valley, Portugal
1 x 75cl
'Papa Figos' or 'fig muncher' is the nickname for the golden oriole, a migratory bird which passes through the Douro. The Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional grapes for this blend are sourced from high altitude vineyards in the Douro Superior region, with around 25% coming from the Quinta da Leda estate in the far eastern reaches of the region, close to the border with Spain.
Nieport Vertente Tinto
Duoro Valley, Portugal
1 x 75cl
“Vertente” means “aspect” or “hillside” and this wine represents an overview of the Douro Valley: it is made up of a little bit of all the Douro terroirs that Niepoort cultivates. The Vertente is produced from vineyards which are more than 35 years old, growing in the Quinta de Nápoles, and from old vines planted on the slopes of the Pinhão River where Touriga Franca, Tinta Amarela and Rufete are the predominant varieties. The old vines contribute to the wine’s elegance, while the younger fruit lend it a youthful freshness. In this excellent 2015 red, concentration, fruit, complexity and elegance create a unique harmony. In line with the Niepoort style, the Vertente is finer, more elegant and more linear with every vintage.
Nieport Sasta
Duoro Valley, Portugal
1 x 75cl
Grapes were destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperatures for approximately one week. A portion of the wine was matured in French oak barriques whereas the rest of the wine remained in stainless steel for about 6 months. The wine has an intense ruby colour. Earl grey, black berries, hints of graphite and a subtle minty character gives the wine complexity and freshness.
