The name Torre Solar, meaning Solar Tower, draws its inspiration from the Solar Tower built on the outskirts of the winemaking town of Manzanares. At the cutting edge of experimentation in alternative energies the contrast between the old windmills and the new solar tower was more than striking. Torre Solar, contrasting but complementing the old and the new, selects out individual vineyard sites, vinifies them separately and brings them to market in a package that provides a beacon for quality in the region.
Only selected, low yielding, un-irrigated vineyards are used for the Torre Solar wines. Green Harvest is vital in order to get the fruit concentration that sets the wines apart as is harvesting by hand at optimal ripeness.
Selected parcels of grapes from small lots are de-stemmed and then crushed. Grapes cold soaked for up to 10 days and then fermented in temperatrue controlled stainlees steel tank with selected yeast strains. Then only free run wine is drained off after a period of post fermentation maceration. Oak aged for a period of 9 months and then carefully blended 10 months after harvest
