Goriška Brda is blessed with a climate ideally suited to viticulture, with its proximity to both the Adriatic Sea and the Alps providing dry, warm summers with cooling breezes during the crucial ripening period. The Gasper wine estate is a joint venture between a local cooperative and the Carman family, who have been in the hospitality and wine business for over 50 years. At the helm of the cellar is Darinko Ribolica, a respected oenologist from Goriška Brda. He uses Slovenia’s local varieties, deeply rooted in Germanic, Slavic and Roman cultural influences, for creating wines in a modern, fresh style.

2 x 75cl Bottles The estate was established in the early 1960s by Graziano Specogna's grandfather and...now, four generations later, Graziano's children are heavily involved. There is a small plant nursery on the estate in which they can do their own vine propagation, ensuring consistency throughout their vineyards. Intense golden yellow with youthful emerald hues. Well-rounded, spiced aromas with varietal characteristics on the nose such as citrus fruit, almonds, walnuts, exotic fruit and a touch of white peach, complemented by sage and white pepper. A powerful, structured wine, with good acidity, a well-orchestrated fruit and spice complexity and a long, elegant finish.

2 x 75cl Bottles When Fernando Guedes planted Azevedo, and made the first wine in 1990, he...pioneered the production of quality Vinho Verde. He immediately set out to transform the estate by planting 35 hectares of vineyards in this cool, wet part of north-western Portugal, bordered to the north by the Minho River adjacent to Spain, to the west by the Atlantic and to the south by the city of Porto. Today, winemaker Miguel Pessanha and his team continue to make one of the best wines from the region. Very attractive lemon-yellow in colour with hints of green. The wine has intense aromas that combine floral notes of roses and orange blossom with citrus fruit and elegant minerality. With a very slight prickle of fizz, it is vibrant, lively and well balanced. The long finish has notes of minerality again, along with citrus flowers.
Dobogo Tokaj Furmint 100% Furmint Tokaj, Hungary, 2015 2 x 75cl Bottles Tokaj is a region bordered by the rivers Bodrog and Tisza in the.north-eastern corner of Hungary, 120 miles from Budapest. It consists of 28 villages spread over the Tokaj hills at approximately 220m above sea level. Founded in 1869, the Dobogó estate is in the centre of Tokaj and today belongs to Izabella Zwack, the youngest member of the Zwack family (the producers of Hungary's famous liqueur, Unicum). This, according to winemaker Attila Domokos is one of the most lean and mineral Furmints in the history of Dobogó dry whites. It captures Mád, Tokaj and the philosophy of Dobogó excellently all in one. It is pale golden in colour and sparkles in the glass. The minerality of Tokaj appears undeniably on the nose, embroidered with fresh citrus and hints of orange peel. Rich and characterful on the palate.
Loimer 'Lois' Gruner Veltliner 100% Grüner Veltliner Kamptal, Lower Austria, 2016
2 x 75cl Bottles Fred Loimer owns 80 hectares around Langenlois, in the sunny Kamptal region of Lower Austria. Fred makes a range of wines from the excellent value 'Lois' and 'Lenz' to the superb, single varietal Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners. Unlike many Austrian producers who go for an overly rich and sweet style, Fred gets full ripeness in the vineyard yet ferments to dryness, managing to produce wines with lovely definition, zest and balance on the palate. Pale lemon in the glass. The nose is restrained and precise, with fresh green apple and spicy notes. On the palate, the 2016 Lois is quite full bodied and juicy, supported by harmonious acidity and herbal, peppery nuances that mingle with juicy green apple flavours. The finish is fresh with lingering pepperiness.
