Founded in 1682 the Rustenberg Estate has been in hands of the Barlow family since 1941. They farm their 110 HA of vines in this varied estate with great care and precision; a range of different slopes and aspects allow for site specific plantings, which in turn helps enhance the varietal characteristics of their range of wines.
This Bordeaux blend is a powerful wine that will reward ageing. The wine is named for a former owner John Xavier Merriman, who played a great role in revitalising the area of Rustenberg.
100% aged for 20 Months in 35% New French Barriques
Ageing Potential: 10 Years
The John X Merriman is a powerful wine that rewards aging. In its youth the wine is worth decanting and expresses cassis, black currant and dark fruits complemented with cigar tobacco and sour cherry notes. As the wine ages and its fine grained tannins soften a softer more savoury palate develops revealing wonderful drinkability and tertiary complexity.
