Pencarrow is the very successful second label of Palliser Estate in Martinborough. The quality of the fruit that has gone into Pencarrow has never been better, partly from the continued improvements in viticulture and increasing vine age
Colour: Dark, deep hearted purple-red colour, lighter on rim, youthful in appearance.
Aroma: The nose is softly full with aromas of ripe, dark red berry and plum fruits, entwined with subtle herb, liquorice and spice notes grow in volume in the glass
Ageing Potential: 6 Years
Full-bodied and full-flavoured, juicy and bright fruit flavours of dark red berry fruits, plums and violet florals are enlivened by fresh, racy, elevated acidity. The fruit is tight and firmly bound with deep core, supported by fine, grainy tannins, and the wine carries through to a refreshing, sinewy finish with long, lingering plum and spice notes
Clones 114, 115, 667, 777, 10/5, Abel and 5 drawn from across the company’s vineyards, from vines 7-23 y.o., given a cool soak and indigenous yeast fermented with approx. 20% whole clusters to 14.3% alc., the wine spending 13 days on skins and 12 months in 23% new oak.
Ageing Potential: This is a bright, lively and juicy dark-fruited Pinot Noir with a firm line and fresh acidity. Match with most red meat dishes over the next 4-5+ years.
