This is the first official release of a single grain whiskey from Irish Distillers. Method and Madness reinforces Irish Distillers’ “continued commitment” to experimentation and innovation at the Midleton Distillery. Single Grain Irish Whiskey Finished in Virgin Spanish Oak has been matured in ex-Bourbon barrels and finished for 12 months in toasted, virgin Spanish oak from Galicia. The process adds “complexity, cask character and a spicy note” to the liquid.
The nose is quite light, delicate and floral with cupcake icing, vanilla, sandalwood and toffee bonbons. The palate is richer and warm, bringing aromas of oak, toasted bread, candied orange slices, honey and a full array of sweet and hotter spices. A short and spicy aftermath with drier notes follows. Overall, a very interesting single grain which participates in rising the interest towards this category of whiskey.
