Country: France Region: Burgundy
Varietal: Chardonnay
Vintage: 2016 Colour: White Style: Dry
Producer: Joseph Drouhin
Description:
Vineyard
Site: the production area stretches south of Burgundy in the Mâconnais region, within 10km south-west of Mâcon. Less
famous than its neighbour "Fuissé", it has been known since the Roman times; "Vinzella" is still tinged with its
specificities. The vineyard, located at an altitude of 250m (820 feet), on the steep slope facing east, is dominated by its
fortified castle.
Soil: clay and limestone rich in iron oxide.
Viticulture
Plantation density: 8,500 vine stocks/hectare.
Pruning: typical Mâconnais pruning type.
Yield: purposely low in order to extract all possible nuances from the terroir.
Supply: exclusive partnership.
Vinification
Pressing: very slow so as to respect the fruit. Juices from the last pressings are not retained.
Ageing
Type: partly in stainless steel vats and partly in oak barrels.
Length: 6 to 8 months.
Throughout the ageing process, decisions are taken only after careful tasting evaluation. The data obtained is completed
through technical analysis. As with every other Joseph Drouhin wine, absolute priority is given to the true expression of
terroir and character of the vintage.
Tasting Note: by Véronique Boss-Drouhin
"A wine for mere pleasure! Pale yellow colour with numerous bright green reflections. Intense persistant flavours of
peach and white flowers harmoniously meshed together. On the palate, the wine is ample, fresh, intense, with reminiscent
notes of ripe grapes, almond, fresh hazelnut and cinnamon. The mouth reveals an elegant wine endowered with a good
structure".
Vintage
We are still surprised by their precise and intense aromas. The bouquets are extremely pleasing: these wines are rich and
finely balanced. Indeed these wines are so attractive and with such good fruitiness that they can be appreciated young,
from now.
