This enviable iconic winery in the heart of the Russian River Valley, on Westside Road, has a long, justifiable and hard-earned reputation for impeccable quality as well as grape growing. It is always a thrill to taste the wines from Tom Rochioli.
Quiet and assured, Tom Rochioli continues to produce spectacular wines from the family’s 100 acres of vineyards in the heart of the Russian River Valley on both sides of Westside Road south of Healdsburg. The two most commonly encountered cuvées are the Russian River Estate Chardonnay and Russian River Estate Pinot Noir.
"The 2013 Pinot Noir West Block is the most structured, backward and brooding of these offerings. It possesses tremendous density as well as potential with a very high ceiling in front of it, but it was much more difficult to evaluate. The color is deep, and the wine has a significant sense of weight and richness in the mouth, but the finish is loaded with tannin and extract. Hints of underbrush, wet gravel and black fruits are noticeable, but this wine needs 2-3 years of cellaring. It should easily last more than a decade. Drink 2017 - 2030.
