Wines from Eastern Europe impress top producers from all over the world at the spring tasting
The results of the 34th Great International Wine Award MUNDUS VINI have been determined: The most successful wineries in this year's competition are R&A Pfaffl (best winery in Austria), DGB (South Africa), Vinaria Purcari (Moldova), Anecoop (Spain) and the Fantini Group (Italy) . The wines from these five wineries have received a total of 163 awards in silver, gold and grand gold.
More than 250 wine experts from 55 countries came to the heart of Germany's second largest wine-growing region, the Palatinate, for the six-day tasting in the traditional Saalbau in Neustadt/Weinstrasse.Wines from 45 different nations were submitted to the competition, including previously unknown wine countries such as Uzbekistan (a silver medal), Poland (only the second gold medal for a Polish wine), as well as Kazakhstan, Colombia and Morocco.
A great success and proof of the consistently high quality of Italian wines are the total of 639 awards (12 Great Gold, 370 Gold, 257 Silver) that were awarded by the strict jury.Second place goes to Spain with 535 awards (7 Grand Gold, 302 Gold, 226 Silver), followed by Portugal (352 awards), France (296 awards), Germany (193 awards) and Austria (105 awards).
