Pigeage occurred two to three times a day depending on the amount of extraction required. The wine was then placed in 50% new Allier Damy barrels by gravity. Today, he is the proprietor, along with his sister, Nathalie and parents Jean-Claude and Claudine Boisset, of a collection of more than twenty great producers from the world's pre-eminent wine producing regions, including those in our portfolio, De Loach Vineyards (Russian River Valley), Jean-Claude Boisset (Burgundy) and Louis Bouillot, Burgundy's leading producer of sparkling wine. Created by Jean-Charles, the innovative JCB Collection brings together two worlds of winemaking - Old and New. Each wine in the collection is a limited edition and is 'named' with a number. These numbers relate to a wine style that Jean-Charles strives to achieve vintage to vintage, while also symbolizing important ideas, passions and moments in his life and wine career. Our two sparkling wines are named 'No21' and 'N°69' which both hold a deep significance for Jean-Charles.

Jean-Charles' philosophy of wine has been profoundly shaped by the wine region where he was born and raised. 'N° 21', a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, honours this connection and heritage, because 21 is the French government's 'département' number for the Côte d'Or. Jean-Charles was born in 1969, the year that mankind went to the moon. 1969 also represents unlimited expression, freedom and refinement. We love the elegant style and finesse of both of these wines, made using the traditional method and aged for a minimum of 12 months on the fine lees to add depth and complexity. 'N°21' is refreshing and elegant, while 'N°69' is exuberant with enticing flavours of raspberries and red fruits."

Vinification:

This sparkling rosé was made according the 'saignée' method. Such is Jeffrey Grosset's attention to detail that he noted a small strip (22 metres wide by 300 metres long) in his Springvale vineyard that produced more generously flavoured wines due to a different soil. As a result, he decided to produce a different wine from this site, Alea, which adds to his great canon of Rieslings.

As the story of Alea illustrates, Jeffrey is fanatical about the quality of his vineyards, all of which are certified organic and are hand-tended. In the winery, each process is gentle and uncomplicated. No finings are used and sulphur is the only addition. By combining a disciplined approach and decades of experience, Grosset consistently achieves the purest expression of variety and place.

Fascinated by the art of blending, Jeff has trialled shiraz-based wines for years, resulting in the newly released Nereus. With just a small amount of Nero d'Avola, it has touch of perfume and freshness, with generous bramble and savoury overtones. It joins the Apiana - a blend of Fiano and Semillon - and his precise and pure Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc, with the latter variety sourced from his Adelaide Hills site, adding an aromatic dimension to the Clare Valley grown Semillon. His Gaia remains one of Australia's best Cabernet blends, while the Pinot Noir is scented, supple and alluring.

Product Features: Sustainable; Vegan; Vegetarian

Winemaker: Jeff Grosset

Vineyards:

Grapes were grown in two privately owned vineyards in the central Adelaide Hills region, just below and north of Mount Lofty. His father still works the estate’s eight hectares of vineyard, of which four are in Volnay, while Guillaume runs the new cuverie. For those who remember the wines from his father’s time, Guillaume has brought a greater elegance to the wines, and a lovely purity of fruit. He uses about 15-20% whole bunch to lift the perfumes and low toast oak to support rather than mask these aromas. The Bourgogne Pinot Noir, fermented and aged solely in stainless steel, is aromatic and supple. His Pommard 2015 is attractively perfumed with soft tannins, good length and nicely restrained oak, with only 20% of the blend seeing new oak. His Volnay 1er Cru `Les Santenots’, from a chalky vineyard on the border with Meursault, is a step up again. The wine, 30% of which was aged in new oak, is beautifully scented, with hints of rose petals on the nose and plentiful tannins on the palate that are nicely balanced by the sweet fruit. The Santenots vineyard continues into Meursault, where Glantenay has a small patch of vines. His 2015 Meursault ‘Les Santenots’ is clean on the nose with a hint of fragrant white flowers and citrus fruit, good weight on the palate with nice acidity and beautifully balanced oak on the finish, which is long and lingering. Guillaume’s grandfather married a woman from Chambolle, so the domaine has long had vineyards in this village, which have been rented out. Guillaume took back some of these vineyards in 2013, and has made an excellent debut wine. It has lifted perfumes of red fruit and rose petals, nice sweetness on the mid-palate, good tannins and excellent length. Like all the other wines that we have shipped, it is an exciting debut from Guillaume Glantenay, who we are confident will make this into one of Burgundy’s most exciting domaines.

Food Suggestion: Sustainable;Vegetarian

Product Allergens: Eggs or Derived Products;Sulphites Label

Winemaker: Guillaume Glantenay

Vineyards:

"The vineyard is located on the boundary of Volnay and Meursault. Once fermentation was complete, wines were assessed daily for extraction and structure, and were pressed when this was deemed to be in balance. Some parcels, largely from the vineyards with more clay content, were left on skins longer to provide structure and some savoury elements. Working with growers in cooler sites of lower vigour, we seek out fruit that delivers pure flavours and great balance.
