Martinborough is A unique place, and it produces wines of real elegance. Wineries like Craggy Range, Ata Rangi and Palliser are all based there. The area is protected on the east coast of new Zealand by mountain ranges and coastal currents, so much so that their growing season is 2 - 3 weeks longer than further South in Marlborough. You can taste the elegance in the wines, there is more complexity, more flavour and Palliser let the vineyards make the wines, not the winemaker. Very little is done in the winery.
Your 6 bottle case includes one bottle each of the Palliser Range of wines - and one bottle will be signed by Pip Goodwin, winemaker and CEO of Palliser during her recent visit to Dublin. Enjoy trying this special lot! The Link will go dead when all 24 cases are sold out.
1 x Palliser Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2015
***Gold medal Mundis Vini & Gold Decanter World Wine Awards***
This wine is so well made, it will age gracefully for 4 - 5 years and only get better. It is critically acclaimed winning no less than 3 Gold medals in the Air New Zealand wine awards. At one stage it was also on the wine list of every 3* Michelin restaurant in New York.
"It explodes in your mouth, has lovely mineral flavours and is a real treat, a lovely lovely wine"
Jean Smullen, Wine Critic, Ireland
1 x Pencarrow Estate Riesling 2015
*** Gold medal Royal Easter Show ***
A dry style of Riesling that Irish people enjoy. For non Riesling believers this will have you converted. Rieslings will age but great Rieslings will drink incredibly well when really young. This is one such wine.
1 x Palliser Estate Chardonnay 2015
*** Bill Irwin Trophy - Champion Chardonnay***
The cool climate of Martinborough makes for ideal chardonnay growing. the days are long and warm, the season is longer than in other areas, so grapes ripen slowly, building complexity and flavour.
1 x Pencarrow Estate Pinot Noir 2013
***Pure Gold Medal New Zealand Wine Awards, Best Pinot Noir in New Zealand***
Grapes here are thicker skinned and smalled than in Marlborough so the wine is more structured, with more tannin and weight, exactly what you would get from Burgundy, without the price tag. Massive wine.
1 x Pencarrow Sauvignon Blanc 2015
*** Gold Medal Air New Zealand Wine Awards***
A fresh, bursting sauvignon blanc with refined elegance. It will also age beautifully for 3-4 years and is great with or without food.
1 x Pencarrow Pinot Gris 2014
***Blue Gold medal, Sydney International Wine Competition***
Oh my god, have this with oriental food like Chinese or Thai. It is the most sublime wine to enjoy with food, and the varietal is taking off in Ireland, especially Pinot Gris from New Zealand. It is a must try wine.
